DESCRIPTION
MASALA IDLI | Breakfast | Snacks
Idli is one of the most popular south Indian dishes out there is probably a favourite of every person out there walking the streets! The batter to make this dish is, however, a very bland one, resulting in a bland dish that is often accompanied with some spicy chutneys, podi or sambar. However, it is really hard for those working people to prepare all these chutneys and sambar in the morning. Yet, no one can stand a bland dish, and so, having no other way out, they still do make them, adding on to their work load. Hence, here is a recipe to some spiced up idli’s that you can have plain or with some sambar or chutneys. It is definitely not bland any more, since they have been nicely spiced up with different masalas!

Ingredients:
Idli - 5 to 6 cut into pieces
Oil
Onion - 2 chopped
Tomato - 3 chopped
Ginger & garlic paste - 1/2 tsp.
Green chilli - 1 cut up
A few Curry leaves
A few Coriander leaves
Salt to taste
Sambar powder - 1 to 2 tsp.
Coriander powder - 1 tsp.
Cinnamon, cloves
Water

Method:
1. Take a wide non-stick pan and place it on the stove. Pour some oil into the pan and add Idli pieces and shallow fry them on low flames, until it turns light golden colour.
2. Now, for the masala, take another deep pan, add some oil, cinnamon, cloves, onion, and green chilli to the pan. Sauté it.
3. Once the onions turn transparent in colour, add the ginger-garlic paste, tomato, salt, sambar powder and coriander powder to the pan. Mix them well until all the ingredients are properly blended together. Just add a little water to it. Add the Curry leaves and mix it.
4. All the idli pieces are now properly toasted. Transfer the toasted Idli pieces into the masala and gently mix it. The idli pieces have to absorb the masala.
5. Turn off the stove, add a little ghee and mix it. Masala Idli is ready to eat now.

Tips:
Instead of cutting the idli’s into pieces, you can try smashing it up and preparing this dish like a spiced dry idli upma, to feed the younger kids easily.
You can alter the masala amount based on your preferences.
