PESARATTU / PESARETTU / GREEN GRAM DOSA | Main Course
Pesarattu dosa is a really easy to make popular breakfast dish of North India. It is one of the most healthy and nutritious dosa varieties. However, it is different from the common dosa in the fact that no urad dal is added in this recipe. Pesarattu is made of two varieties. You can make it either with whole moong beans or with split moong lentils known as green grams. Pesarattu is eaten at breakfast and as a snack that is popular in Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan in India. It is typically served with ginger or tamarind chutney.

Ingredients:

Green gram - 1 cup (250 ml)
Par-boiled rice - 1/4 cup
Green chilis - 2 no.'s
Ginger - a small piece chopped
Turmeric powder - 1/4 Tsp.
Salt
Cumin seeds - 1/2 Tsp.
Oil for sprinkling
Onion for garnish


Method:
1. First, soak the green gram and par-boiled rice in water for at least 4 hours.

2. Add the soaked green grams and rice to a mixer jar. To that, add green chilis, ginger and turmeric powder.

3. Grind it to form a coarse batter-consistent paste. Add a little water if needed.

4. To the batter, add some salt and cumin seeds.

5. In the hot pan, pour the batter and spread it over the surface like a dosa.

6. Flip over to the other side and let it cook till done.

7. Garnish with some chopped onions and serve hot!






Best with:

A delicacy from Andhra Pradesh, it is sometimes served with plain upma (pesarattu with upma is know as MLA pesarattu) and ginger chutney. It can also be served plain with some coconut chutney or Coriander chutney too.
