TOMATO IDIYAPPAM / SEVAI | Breakfast
It is a hassle for every mother to cook appealing dishes for their kids and families. It is normal for people to get bored of eating the same dishes over and over again so frequently. But, how to keep their meals healthy when they get bored of the food they eat every day? Simple, cook new dishes. We are here with one such simple yet easy and different dish for you to try out at home.

Tomato Idiyappam / Sevai is nothing but a tomato flavoured rice noodles dish popular in South India. It is not only tasty but it also takes very less time to prepare. It is a very healthy breakfast as it is steamed cooked and is also easily digestible. Let's see how to make this.
Prep time: 20 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
Number of servings: 4-5 persons
Ingredients:
String hoppers/ Idiyappam/ Sevai - 1 pack
Onion - 2 medium chopped
Tomato - 3 medium chopped
Turmeric powder - 1/4 Tsp
Sambar powder/ Red chilli powder - 2 Tsp
Asafoetida powder - 1/4 Tsp
Salt to taste
Ghee - 1 Tsp
Oil - 1 Tbsp

For Tempering:
Urad Dal - 1 Tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 Tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 Tsp
A few Curry leaves

Method:
1. Cook the String hoppers/ Idiyappam/ Sevai according to the directions mentioned on the package. In this video, we cooked it in hot water for 5 minutes and strained it.

2. Place a wide pan on the stove. Add some oil, urad dal, cumin seeds and mustard seeds to the pan.
[Note: Use a wider pan so that it is easier to mix the ingredients together.]

3. Once the mustard seeds start splattering add the chopped onions, asafoetida powder and a few curry leaves.

4. Once the onions turn golden-brown in colour, add the chopped tomatoes, salt, turmeric powder and sambar powder/ red chilli powder to the pan. Mix well and cook until mushy.

5. Once the tomatoes are nicely mashed up, slowly add the cooked String hoppers/ Idiyappam/ Sevai and start mixing it.

6. Finally, add a spoon full of ghee and mix it. Tomato idiyappam is ready to be served!
