For cooking Dal
Toor Dal - 1/2 cup
A pinch of Turmeric powder
Few cloves of Garlic

For Dough
Atta/Wheat flour - 1 cup
Ajwain/Carom seeds - 1/4 Tsp
Salt to taste

For Chakolya
Gee - 2 Tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 Tsp
A pinch of Hing/Asafoetida powder
Water - 2 cups
Salt to taste
Chili powder - 1 Tsp
Coriander powder - 1 Tsp

For Garnishing
Chopped Onions
Chopped Green chili
Chopped Coriander leaves


Add water to a pressure cooker and add toor dal, turmeric powder and a few cloves of garlic and pressure cook it for about 4-5 whistles.

In a mixing bowl, add flour, ajwain, and a little water and mix well to make a nice ad soft dough.

Taking a little of the dough, roll it until it forms a large circle. Make sure it’s neither too thin nor too thick.

Make horizontal and vertical cuts into the rolled out dough using a kitchen knife, such that several small pieces of a square or diamond shapes are formed. Places these pieces on a plate.

Once the dal is cooked, take a wide saucepan and add ghee, mustard seeds, and pinch. Let it cook for some time.

Once the mustard seeds start crackling, add the cooked dal to the pan.

Now, adding two cups of water to dilute the dal, season it with salt, chili powder, and coriander powder and mix well.

Once bubbles start forming, i.e. once the dal starts boiling, add the pieces of dough to it. Let it cook for about 10-15 minutes.

Turning off the stove, empty the contents of the pan into a large bowl and garnish the dish with finely chopped onions, green chili, and coriander leaves. A bit of lemon juice can be added to enhance the taste if you so desire.

Your dish is now ready to be devoured. Serve it hot and enjoy a healthy meal with your family.
