How to do Surya Bheda Pranayama

DESCRIPTION
Pranayama is a breath-control technique. In Sanskrit, pran means life and ayama means way. Pranayama can help you regulate your system, alter your mood and ensure longevity. These pranayamas are a simple, but a very effective tool for relaxation.

SURYA BHEDA PRANAYAMA | Right Nostril Breathing
The meaning of “Surya” is Sun and the meaning of the word “Bhedana” is piercing, enter or breaking through something, etc. and hence, this pranayama is also known as Surya Bhedana Pranayama.

How to:
1. Position your left hand in the mudra as shown, folding your index and middle finger while keeping the other fingers stretched out.
2. Close and block your left nostril using your thumb and place your ring finger between your eyebrows and your little finger on the corner of your right eyebrow.
3. Inhale through your right nostril and exhale through your left nostril.
4. Repeat this 10 to 15 times.

Why to:
1. It activates the body functions and is very helpful for increasing the digestive fire.
2. It cures all diseases that are caused by insufficiency of oxygen in the blood.
3. It cleans the frontal sinuses.
4. It is said to destroy intestinal worms.
5. It keeps your body warm.
6. It creates lots of energy.
7. It is the best breathing exercise for people suffering from cold and cough, Asthma, or other respiratory problems.
8. It cures gas problems.
9. Is said to assist in curing several skin related problems.

Caution:
People, who are experienced high blood pressure problem, don’t try this. Those people who have experienced brain surgery or heart surgery should take advice from medical expert or yoga expert before doing Surya Bhedana Pranayama. Always do Pranayama in a systematic way and in under the supervision of an expert person.
